Narrativas de jogadores de basquetebol sobre a relação entre esporte e drogas : um estudo etnográfico num bairro de periferia de Porto Alegre

Abstract

Este trabalho procura abordar uma afirmação bastante recorrente na argumentação daqueles que defendem o envolvimento de pessoas, sobretudo crianças e jovens, em universos esportivos: o que de que o esporte afasta ou tira 'das drogas'. Esse discurso está presente, por exemplo, em cursos de formação superior, em narrativas de veículos de comunicação, em projetos sociais, em manifestações de agentes da política pública. A literatura que aborda essa questão, por um lado, reforça esse lugar do esporte como ferramenta social capaz de proteger 'das drogas', mas também há um conjunto de estudos que problematizam o que chamam de uma visão simplista ou reducionista. Sobre essa temática há trabalhos que, no campo das políticas públicas, relacionam esse discurso com políticas utilitaristas e focalistas. Nesse universo de debates é que o presente estudo procurou, através de uma etnografia, compreender as narrativas de um grupo de jogadores de basquetebol sobre a relação esporte e drogas, considerando suas trajetórias e experiências vividas num bairro de periferia da cidade de Porto Alegre. Essa pesquisa, numa perspectiva da etnografia da duração, esteve centrada na compreensão das experiências temporais narradas por jogadores e sobre jogadores, considerando que são construções, no presente, das relações vividas e pensadas. Foram realizadas observações participantes, diários de campo, entrevistas, catalogação e organização de documentos como forma de produção empírica. As análises materializadas num texto etnográfico envolveram narrativas sobre as trajetórias de atores-chave e seus esforços para a composição e manutenção de um grupo de basquetebol. Na sequência, a textualização etnográfica que é uma materialização da experiência no campo e, no presente caso, uma transcriação, analisa especificamente a constituição do grupo de basquete no bairro de periferia e as narrativas de personagens-jogadores sobre a relação entre esporte e drogas. Com a realização do estudo foi possível concluir que a relação entre esporte e drogas são narradas a partir dos dramas e dinâmicas da vida cotidiana urbana.

This work aims to address a quite recurring statement in the arguments of those who defend the involvement of people, especially children and young people, in sports universes: sports prevent the use and keep people away from ‘drugs’. This discussion is present, for example, in higher education courses, narratives of communication means, social projects, demonstrations of public policy agents. The literature that addresses this issue, on the one hand, reinforces this position of sport as a social tool capable of protecting 'from drugs'. However, there is also a set of studies that problematize what they call a simplistic or reductionist view. There are works on this theme, in the field of public policies, which relate this discourse to utilitarian and focalistic policies. In this universe of debates, this study sought through an ethnography to understand the narratives of a group of basketball players about the relationship between sport and drugs. Also, their trajectories and experiences lived in a peripheric neighborhood of the city of Porto Alegre were considered. This research, in a perspective of the ethnography of duration, was centered on the understanding of the temporal experiences narrated by players and about players, considering these are constructions, in the present, of the lived and thought relationships. Participating observations, field diaries, interviews, cataloging and organization of documents were carried out as a form of empirical production. The analyzes materialized in an ethnographic text involved narratives about the trajectories of key actors and their efforts on the composition and maintenance of a basketball group. In the sequence, the ethnographic textualization which is a materialization of the experience in the field and, in the present case, a transcreation, specifically analyzes the constitution of the basketball group in the periphery neighborhood and the narratives of character-players about the relationship between sports and drugs. With the completion of this study, it was possible to conclude that the relationship between sport and drugs are narrated from the dramas and dynamics of everyday urban life.
