Introduction: The Pilates Method has specific exercises and accessories for the feet. One of the exercises is called footwork series – done on the Reformer – which aims to strengthen and align the lower limbs and to improve the function of the feet and ankles. The guidelines on diabetes recommend monitoring the overload on the feet for this population. Considering the footwork series on the Reformer as an option of exercises for the diabetic people entails the knowledge of the force imposed by the exercises on the feet. Objective: To develop and validate multivariable predictive models which allow to estimate the magnitude of the applied force on the feet during the footwork series exercises on the Reformer. Method: The sample included 101 healthy adults, both genders, Pilates practitioners (at different levels) and non-practitioners, divided into two subgroups: (1) 86 participants designated to the prediction of the model and (2) 15 participants designated to the validation of the model. The inferential statistics were used to describe the sample. In order to develop the equations, the multiple linear regression was used in the Toes, Heels, Arches and Tendon Stretch (TS) positions. In order to evaluate the models, the coefficient of multiple correlation and the RMS error were used. Results: When using the variables load, spring deformation and rhythm, it was obtained variable models for the positions Toes (coefficient of multiple correlation : 0,718), Heels (coefficient of multiple correlation: 0,736), and Tendon Stretch (coefficient of multiple correlation: 0,743). It wasn’t obtained any viable model for the position Arches. Conclusion: The magnitude of the applied force on the feet during the footwork series done on the Reformer can be estimated for the positions Toes, Heels and Tendon Stretch. Equations using the predictive variables load, deformation and rhythm are recommended, considering that they are variables easy to access and available in the Pilates studios. The models presented in this study provide useful information capable of assisting the Pilates instructor in the planning of the prescription of the footwork series on the Reformer, in addition to the control and adequacy of the overload on the locomotive system and the monitoring of the overload on the feet of the individual, also making possible for future studies to investigate the contribution of the footwork series done on the Reformer for the diabetic people. ...
