O crescente aumento do apelo ambiental pela utilização de materiais renováveis levou os taninos vegetais a desempenharem papel importante na indústria, com suas diversas aplicações, sendo a principal delas, sua atuação como agente curtente. O curtimento vegetal vem ganhando força no mercado, porém ainda apresenta dificuldades técnicas no que se refere ao tratamento adequado de suas águas de descarte, tendo em vista as características dos compostos tânicos utilizados. Neste contexto, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a influência do pH e da concentração inicial de tanino em cultivos submersos visando otimizar o consumo de tanino de acácia por Aspergillus oryzae. Foi realizado um planejamento experimental com um delineamento composto central rotacional, 2², com três pontos centrais e quatro axiais, em dois níveis. As variáveis independentes estudadas foram o pH e a concentração inicial de tanino vegetal no meio, obtendose como resposta as variáveis produção de biomassa e consumo de tanino. Observou-se que o maior consumo de tanino ocorreu nas maiores concentrações iniciais de tanino (40 g/L (+1) e 46,15 g/L (+1,41)), enquanto o pH e a interação pH/concentração de tanino não tiveram influência significativa nos resultados. Além disso, foram desenvolvidos modelos matemáticos preditivos para as variáveis resposta. Os fungos filamentosos da espécie Aspergillus oryzae foram capazes de consumir, nas condições ótimas de operação estabelecidas, cerca de 80% dos taninos vegetais inicialmente contidos no meio, demonstrando assim que são capazes de biodegradar o tanino de acácia, comumente utilizado como agente curtente pela indústria coureira. ...
