The objective of this work is to study the impact that the forced ventilation system has on the available safe egress time of people (ASET) in a compartment fire scenario. The present study was carried out through numerical modeling using the Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) software, considering nine different variations in parameters that constitute the forced ventilation system (inflow and outflow rates, positions of the insufflation and exhaustion ducts). For each case, the available safe egress time for evacuation of people in four different regions within the site was determined. The results showed that, for the scenario under analysis, the position of the exhaust system is the most relevant factor in the variation of ASET, being viable to increase it up to 21% through combinations in the flow parameters and location of the ducts, proving that, when properly designed, a room's forced ventilation system can have a beneficial effect in a confined fire situation. ...
