Abstract

Esta contribuição propõe uma tradução comentada do conto A aranha de Hanns Heinz Ewers. O texto, um dos contos mais conhecidos do autor, foi escrito em 1908 e publicado inicialmente em diversos jornais como o Berliner Morgen-Zeitung ou Berliner Tageblatt. A história gira em torno de uma sedutora demoníaca que leva homens a se enforcar. H. P. Lovecraft retoma em seu último conto The Haunter of the Dark alguns elementos do conto de Ewers e define, em seu ensaio Supernatural Horror in Literature, o autor alemão como representante destacado da literatura fantástica. Em termos tradutórios, a alternância de estilos entre os narradores foi um desafio. Na parte narrada em primeira pessoa se objetivou manter a fluidez que é esperada em um texto encontrado em um diário, enquanto na parte inicial, narrada em terceira pessoa, um estilo mais direto e impessoal foi utilizado.

This paper proposes a commented translation of the tale The Spider by Hanns Heinz Ewers. The text, one of the author's best-known tales, was written in 1908 and first published in several newspapers such as the Berliner Morgen-Zeitung or the Berliner Tageblatt. The story is about a demonic seductress who leads men to hang himself. H. P. Lovecraft takes up in his last tale The Haunter of the Dark some elements of Ewers story and defines, in his essay Supernatural Horror in Literature, the German author as one of the outstanding representatives of fantastic literature. In translational terms, the alternation of styles between the narrators was a challenge. In the part narrated in the first person it was aimed to maintain the fluidity that is expected in a text found in a diary, while in the initial part, narrated in the third person, a more direct and impersonal style was used.
