Estimativa do valor de mercado de um jogador de futebol profissional da liga inglesa

Abstract

Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a composição do valor de mercado dos atletas profissionais da Liga Inglesa de Futebol (Barclays Premier League), por meio do método de Regressão Linear Múltipla, que permite identificar quais são as variáveis que mais impactam a variável dependente em análise. Para isso, foram utilizados dados de 387 atletas, dos 20 clubes da Liga Inglesa, referentes à temporada 2018/2019, extraídos dos websites Transfermarkt e Whoscored. Concluiu-se que grande parte dos resultados encontrados eram os esperados e assemelham-se aos que foram abordados na revisão da literatura, como é o caso da relação negativa entre a variável Idade e o valor de mercado. O destaque fica para a relação positiva entre a variável Instagram_followers e a variável dependente, indicando que, dadas as demais variáveis constantes, quanto maior for o ganho com imagem do atleta, maior é o seu valor de mercado. Também foi possível observar que a hipótese de haver discriminação racial ou étnica na precificação dos atletas não foi confirmada no estudo.

This research aims to analyze the composition of the market value of professional athletes from the English Football League (Barclays Premier League), using the Multiple Linear Regression method, which allows identifying the variables that most impact the dependent variable under analysis. For this, data from 387 athletes from the 20 clubs of the English League for the 2018/2019 season were used, extracted from the Transfermarkt and Whoscored websites. It was concluded that most of the results found were those expected and are similar to those that were addressed in the literature review, as is the case of the negative relationship between the variable age and the market value. The highlight is the positive relationship between the Instagram_followers variable and the dependent variable, indicating that, given the other constant variables, the greater the gain with the athlete's image, the greater the market value. It was also possible to observe that the hypothesis of racial or ethnic discrimination in athletes' pricing was not confirmed in the study.
