It starts from the hypothesis that companies franchise units aiming to mitigate agency costs and aiming to obtain resources, financial or not, for their expansion. In order to clarify this question, a questionnaire of exploratory questions was answered by a sample comprising entrepreneurs and / or people who have already worked with franchises. From the analysis of the research data, it is concluded that the franchising is due to the following reasons: Risk reduction, less capital contribution, geographic proximity of the franchisee, gains in scale and reduction of monitoring costs. The survey also found that the main difficulties related to the opening of franchises are: Excessive bureaucracy, government policies such as taxes, among other points. In addition, upon observation of certain indicators, it was found that the franchise system registered consistent growth in the period analyzed. The good results can be attributed to macroeconomic stability, low initial investment in the business model, support and training to franchisees, strengthening of international brands and shopping centers, among other aspects. ...
