Abstract
The paper analyzes the variable rising of vowels /e, o/ in unstressed, open final syllables (film[e] ~ film[ɪ] ‘film’, nov[o] ~ nov[ʊ] ‘new’) in Portuguese in contact with German in a rural community in the South of Brazil in the perspective of the variationist sociolinguistics (LABOV, 1972).
