The objective of this study is to map and analyze the urban areas and buildings susceptible to the floods of the Taquari River in the city of Lajeado / RS. We used in our study flood data of the municipality of Lajeado, from 1980 to 2015, adjusted according to Greiner (2014). The mapping of areas and buildings susceptible to flooding was carried out in ArcGis software, by using a spatial database surveyed in 2013 from BASE aerophotogrammetry. These digital database were analyzed in a scale of 1: 2000, and it was composed of contours, with vertical equidistance of 1 m, road system data and by an orthophotomosaic with a spatial resolution of 16 cm. Based on a Digital Terrain Model generated from these contour lines, we identified flood areas between the altimetry of 19 m and 30 m in the city of Lajeado. We validated this flood map with flood records measured in October 10, 2015, which reached an altitude of 23.81 m, being 11.51 m above the reference level of 12.30 m. The flood level of 19 m reached 25.98 ha of the urban area of Lajeado, while floods that reached the highest historical level, close to the 30 m level, flood 1,036 ha, representing 11.50% of the total area of the city of Lajeado. The flood data used to validate the present study, from October 10, 2015, covered an area of 324 ha (3.24 km²). The mean altimetric error between the spatial modeling and the observed flood level in the terrain was 0.74 m, with a standard deviation (σ) of 0.79 m. On the other hand, the mean horizontal error of flood of 23.81 m mapped by geoprocessing in relation to the flooded area observed in loco was of 6,77 m and with a σ of 6,06 m. Our analysis also indicated that 466 buildings were affected by the flood analyzed, resulting in a removal of 97 homeless families and a number of 55 evacuations.en
