Bimanual Coordination on the Guitar (Coordenação Bimanual ao Violão – CBV) is the joint action of both hands of the guitarist in the production of notes, responsible for the individual quality of each note and the legato between them. Aiming the quantitative analysis of this question, we investigated the CBV through its cues in the collected audio recordings. For this, we made observational studies and an experiment with undergraduate and graduate guitar players from three institutions of different Brazilian regions. In our literature review, we discussed the terms coordination and synchronization, and addressed instrumentalists’ bimanual coordination, motor behaviour of hands and CBV in guitar methods. After this, we present the methodological construction of the research, addressing the elaboration, achievement, results and discussion of the two observational pilots carried out, and the Final Experiment methodology, which included 11 subjects. We point out the following results: the proposed technical exercises, which brings out the awareness of the left hand rhythm, improved guitarists’ CBV; the combinations that comprehend fingers 3 and 4 are more likely to hinder CBV; there was better CBV when starting the excerpt with the index instead of the middle finger; the combination covering 4 frets (4-1) presented worse CBV in relation to those covering 2 (2-1, 3-2 and 4-3) and 3 (3-1 and 4-2) frets. We believe that we have developed a satisfactory way of measuring CBV, which seemed to correspond to the reality of the phenomenon. The results showed a certain recurrence and reflected almost all our hypotheses.en
