This concluding work aims to understand the extent to which foreign direct investment (FDI) operates to promote the economic complexity in the countries of Latin America. Specifically, we seek to understand if the technological content can be used as a measure of qualitative differentiation of the FDI, in order to analyze if investments that are more intensive in knowledge are the ones that contribute most to the increase of the Economic Complexity Index, a metric created by Ricardo Hausmann and César Hidalgo to measure the productive sophistication of a country. In addition, we aim to understand more deeply the mechanisms of interaction between FDI and the internal innovation environment. The dataset is a panel with time periods between 1980 and 2015 for 19 Latin countries and, through econometric regressions for panel data, it was observed that the technological content of foreign direct investment is a variable of interest in itself, since its positive effects persist even controlling for the level of FDI received. In addition, it was also observed that foreign direct investment acts in synergy with the internal environment of innovation to raise the Economic Complexity Index in the countries of Latin America.en
