O presente trabalho debruça-se sobre o Reino da Arábia Saudita, país de extrema relevância para as relações internacionais contemporâneas. O país, que se encontra erguido sobre bases institucionais antigas – a saber, a monarquia absolutista, o Estado rentista e os alinhamentos internacionais –, vê-se cada vez mais pressionado por um sistema internacional que tenta escapar da dependência do petróleo, produto-símbolo nacional que liga os três elementos citados em um bloco único e coeso. Diante dessa situação, o recém-nomeado príncipe-herdeiro, Mohammad bin Salman, encabeça um amplo programa de transformação nacional que visa substituir as engrenagens fundamentais do Estado-nacional e garantir a sobrevivência do país na era pós-hidrocarbonetos, reorganizando a autocracia, diversificando a economia e liberalizando a sociedade. This study focuses on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a country of extreme relevance for contemporary international relations. The Saudi nation, which finds itself established over old institutional foundations – the absolute monarchy, the Rentier State and the international alliances -, sees itself increasingly pressured by an international system that attempts to escape from the dependency of oil, product that symbolizes the whole country and connects the three aforementioned elements in a single, cohesive, block. In the face of this situation, the recently appointed crown prince, Mohammad bin Salman, leads an extensive national transformation program, which aims at replacing the fundamental gears of Saudi politics and ensuring the country’s survival during a post-hydrocarbons era, reorganizing the autocracy, diversifying the economy and liberalizing the society. Such inflection comes followed by meaningful consequences for the nation’s diplomacy, which reinterprets its leadership role in the Middle East as well as its historical alliance with the United States. ...
