"Tire os olhos da bola" : análise de uma tradução técnica sobre futebol americano

Abstract

O presente trabalho tem por objetivo analisar a tradução da obra Take Your Eye Off The Ball, que fala sobre novas perspectivas acerca do futebol americano, desde a rotina pré-jogo, envolvendo técnicos e jogadores, até os acontecimentos no campo de jogo. O livro escolhido pertence a um esporte pouco explorado na literatura brasileira e, de maneira geral, na língua portuguesa, do que verificou-se o quanto a sua característica exótica influencia no texto traduzido. A partir do objetivo inicial, são apresentados os principais questionamentos comuns de pesquisadores conhecidos no universo dos Estudos de Tradução, como Vinay & Dalbernet (1977), Aubert (1987) e Albir (2001), com as indagações sobre a fidelidade da tradução, as dificuldades de uma tradução técnica, e finalmente, os procedimentos técnicos aplicados no ato tradutório. Com a finalidade de analisar a tradução do livro de Pat Kirwan e David Seigerman, foram apresentados os procedimentos técnicos propostos por Heloisa Barbosa (2004) em seu livro Procedimentos Técnicos da Tradução: Uma nova proposta, onde ela agrupa as principais estratégias acerca da prática da tradução e propõe uma caracterização própria. Por fim, é possível julgar e analisar criticamente a atuação de Gustavo Esteves como tradutor da obra de Pat Kirwan e David Seigerman, considerando todo o contexto da obra, exemplos prévios de obras sobre futebol americano no Brasil e, finalmente, as próprias escolhas do tradutor, tendo em vista as técnicas aplicadas pelo mesmo em seu trabalho.

The current work aims to analyse the translation of Take Your Eye Off The Ball, a book that approaches new perspectives about american football since its pregame routine involving coaches and players up to what happens on the football field. The book that was chosen belongs to a sport that is little explored in the Brasilian literature and Portuguese language in general, which is relevant to examine how much its exotic characteristic influenced in the translated text. From the starting objective, common reflections discussed by well-known Translation Studies researchers are presented, such as Vinay & Dalbernet (1977), Aubert (1987) and Albir (2001), with questions about translation faithfulness (towards the original text), difficulties of a technical translation and finally technical procedures applied in translations. With the purpose of analyse the translation of Kirwan and Seigermans' book, the technical procedures proposed by Heloisa Barbosa (2004) in her book Procedimentos Técnicos da Tradução are introduced, along with the main translation practice strageries and recartegorization of the strategies, proposed by the author in her book. In the end, it is possible to critically judge and analyse Gustavo Esteves work as translator of Kirwan and Seigermans' book, considering the context surrounding the book, previous examples of american football productions that reached Brazil, and finally, the translator choices, based on his own techniques applied to the translation.
