Esta dissertação aborda o estudo do comportamento de estacas escavadas de pequeno diâmetro executadas em solo la ter i tico parcialmente saturado. Sete estacas com diferentes diâmetros (0,20 m e 0,35 m) e 2,00 m de comprimento foram construídas e ensaiadas à compressão até atingir a ruptura. Houve reteste em seis destas estacas. O campo experimental está localizado na subestação da Companhia Estadual de Energia Elétrica, no município de Cachoeirinha, Rio Grande do Sul. Os resultados de oito estacas com diâmetro constante (0,20 m) e comprimentos diferentes (2,00 m e 3,00 m) ensaiadas anteriormente no mesmo local são reinterpretados . As previsões da capacidade de carga obtidas através de métodos de correlações com as sondagens à penetração dinâmica e por métodos estáticos são avaliadas experimentalmente. As cargas de ruptura definidas por extrapolação são comparadas com as cargas de ruptura obtidas nos ensaios interpretadas segundo a Norma Brasileira e a Prática Inglesa . A comparação entre os resultados de provas de carga e os valores de capacidade de carga calculados pelos métodos estudados mostram que estes métodos subestimam os valores da resistência lateral e superestimam os valores da resistência de ponta. ...
