Currently, cetaceans are classified as an infraorder, within the Cetancodonta suborder, as part of Cetartiodactyla order. The Delphinidae family, which is part of Odontoceti superfamily, is the most diverse. Within this family is the genus Tursiops, which has two species, Tursiops truncatus (Montagu, 1821) and T. aduncus (Ehrenberg, 1833). However, some studies have tried to validate a new species from the southwestern Atlantic, T. gephyreus, described by Lahille in 1908. Until then, more robust studies with T. gephyreus were made based on their sincranium and vertebrae count, increasing the knowledge of their anatomy. However, despite recent efforts to demonstrate the existence of two species in this area, T. gephyreus is not a recognized species. Thus, in this work, they were treated as two morphotypes: gephyreus morphotype and truncatus morphotype. The objective was to increase knowledge of the morphological differences and similarities between the morphotypes, checking and describing the morphological characteristics of post-cranial structures. For this, were observed ribs, sternum, scapulas and pelvic bones of 41 specimens (21 gephyreus, 20 truncatus) searching for characteristics of each morphotype to make a description of each comparatively structure and also searching diagnostic characters. It also used the traditional and geometric morphometry. Through observation of materials, were observed that gephyreus has more robust bone to the ribs, scapulas and pelvic bones. Already truncatus, that presented the greatest amount of higher average values, these have thinner structures, compared to gephyreus. The depth of the anterior manubrium depression was higher in truncates, being also one of the measures with significant differences (p<0.05) between the morphotypes. The scapulas of truncatus there is a tendency of the acromion overlap the coracoid, which occurred in 83% of specimens, which may be a diagnostic characteristic, when comparing the morphotypes. With traditional morphometry, seven of 53 measurements had significant differences (p <0.05). Through tests carried with proportions measures, wherein the size factor is minimized, eight were found among 13 measures, with significant differences (p <0.05), which may show that there are more differences in the shapes of these post-cranial structures between morphotypes than its size. It observed a difference in the manubrium of the morphotypes by geometric morphometry. The image generated for gephyreus shows a wider and robust manubrium, while for truncatus is called attention to the marked anterior depression and slender manubrium with subtle fins. This study corroborates other studies that have been done in the same area, with the sincranium of morphotypes, where significant differences are found between them. Thus, it is concluded that the morphotypes in question have morphological differences in the post-cranial skeleton, but more studies are recommended for these structures.en
