As demonstrações contábeis das empresas podem estar suscetíveis a distorções visto que os profissionais da contabilidade não possuem conhecimento suficiente sobre o uso correto das provisões, contingências e o objeto desse estudo, os accruals. As provisões derivadas de apropriações por competência, os accruals, são obrigações existentes registradas no período de competência caracterizadas como passivos genuínos e não devem ser reconhecidas como provisões. As acumulações contábeis permitem o gerenciamento de resultados gerando informações que corroboram na identificação dos reflexos dos accruals que compõem o ativo e passivo circulante, tanto quanto no ativo e passivo não circulante. Nesse sentido, para a contabilidade, os accruals são indicadores da qualidade do lucro. A partir dessa percepção, essa pesquisa buscou identificar o volume de produção acadêmica do tema accruals nos periódicos nacionais listados como principais periódicos de contabilidade pela Anpcont, e com a avaliação pelo Qualis/Capes dos estratos A1 a B3 das áreas de Administração, Contabilidade e Turismo de 2005 a 2016. Essa pesquisa foi classificada como documental e bibliométrica. Para a apresentação e análise dos dados, utilizou-se diferentes técnicas, tais como gráficos, rede sociais e nuvem de palavras-chave. Dentre os artigos identificados, observou-se que o tema accruals não teve significante evolução nos periódicos nacionais desde 2005. A referência que mais se destacou foi dos autores Sloan e Dechow, presente em 100% dos artigos identificados. Houve predominância de obras estrangeiras como principais obras citadas, equivalente a 75% do total de obras. O periódico que teve mais artigos publicados foi a Revista Contemporânea de Contabilidade. ...
