O futebol da bola oval: uma análise da presença do Super Bowl LII em jornais diários de Porto Alegre

Abstract

A final do quinquagésimo segundo (LII) Super Bowl (a final da principal liga de futebol americano dos Estados Unidos) no dia 04 de fevereiro de 2018 teve repercussão em vários lugares do mundo. No Brasil, não foi diferente. Mais especificamente na capital gaúcha, a maioria dos jornais diários tocou no assunto, que, em alguns, ganhou várias páginas. Este trabalho se propôs a compreender o que levou tais veículos, a milhares de quilômetros do palco do jogo, a publicarem sobre o "futebol da bola oval". Como ponto de partida, foram apresentados estudos relacionados ao jornalismo, incluindo autores como Felipe Pena, Nelson Traquina e Mauro Wolf. Já na abordagem do futebol americano, este material se utilizou, principalmente, do “Manual do Futebol Americano”, de Antony Curti. Um estudo de caso exploratório foi realizados a partir de materiais obtidos entre 29 de janeiro a 06 de fevereiro de 2018. Em meio às publicações, foi possível encontrar diversos obstáculos para um leitor leigo, aquele que desconhece o esporte. Entrevistas fizeram parte do processo. As informações prestadas pelos jornalistas consultados indicaram que existe uma demanda do público por informações relacionadas ao futebol americano. Tal fato teria, inclusive, contribuído para a formação de uma agenda em torno do tema em certos jornais. O Diário Gaúcho foi o único veículo a não pautar o Super Bowl LII sob o pretexto de que o assunto não teria relação com seu público-alvo (o leitor da camada popular).

The end of the fifty-second (LII) Super Bowl (the final of the most and main football's league of the US) had its repercussion in many parts of the world. In Brazil, it was not different. To be more specific in the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Most daily newspapers mentioned the topic and some of them had published a reasonable number of pages. The main reason of this article is to understand what took those newspapers to publish about the event – even though it happened miles away from Brazil. As a starting point, the monography presents studies related to journalism including authors as Felipe Pena, Nelson Traquina and Mauro Wolf. About the American football, the mainly material used was “The American Football Manual”, written by Antony Curti. The exploratory study of case shown were collected from materials obtained from January 29th to February 6th, 2018. Among the publications, it was possible to find many obstacles to the ordinary reader, the one who does not know about the sport. Interviews were part of the process. The information given by the journalists consulted show that there is lack of information given by the journalists to the public related to the American football. This fact contributed to a formation of a theme-related agenda in some newspapers. The Diario Gaucho was the only newspaper that not to mention Super Bowl LII, expressing the theme is not related to their target public (low classes).
