Irmandade de Nossa Senhora do Rosário de Viamão : escravidão, religiosidade e resistência (1756-1790)

Abstract

A irmandade do Rosário de Viamão era uma organização religiosa de culto leigo católico onde havia em sua grande maioria a presença de escravos e libertos. Nesse sentido, para esses negros e negras, as irmandades do Rosário se tornaram lugares de vivências, experiências, ajuda mútua e de solidariedade. Lugares onde a população negra poderia gozar de certa autonomia na condução dos rumos de suas vidas dentro da rigidez da sociedade colonial de Antigo Regime. Dentro dessa proposta é importante salientar que nesse aspecto o tráfico de escravos adquire um novo sentido não se restringido apenas a operações comerciais. A transferência compulsória de africanos para a América Portuguesa permitiu, a partir desse contato, a formação de novas identidades, recriação de culturas e o desenvolvimento de novas sociedades. As irmandades do Rosário foram um empreendimento de religiosidade católica muito bem-sucedido. Ao longo do trabalho é possível identificar diversas organizações espalhadas no imenso território brasileiro onde há perceptíveis aproximações e diferenças com o sodalício gaúcho. Pelas fontes utilizadas no estudo, a contabilidade era importante para a Irmandade de Viamão alcançar seus objetivos. Nesse aspecto, o saber contábil aliado com o conhecimento histórico permitiram conhecer a irmandade Rosário de Viamão sob um outro olhar. As irmandades do Rosário surgidas no período colonial foram perdendo seu prestígio e importância ao longo do século XX. Mesmo diminuindo em muito sua autonomia, em alguns lugares, elas ainda se mantêm em funcionamento e têm uma certa representatividade. Um importante espaço de resistência. Um dos objetivos desse trabalho é ressaltar a importância da participação negra na história. Dessa forma, enfatizar o protagonismo das negras e negros na sociedade gaúcha e brasileira, onde por muito tempo foram tratados e retratados de forma subalterna.

Inside this proposal it is important to point out that in this aspect the slaves' traffic acquires a new sense done not restricted only to commercial operations. The brotherhoods of the Rosary were a very successful undertaking of catholic religiosity. Along the work it is possible to identify several organizations spread in the immense Brazilian territory where there is noticeable approximations and differences with the community from Rio Grande do Sul. For the fountains used in the study, the accounting it was important for the brotherhood of Viamão to reach his objectives.
