| pt_BR |
dc.description.abstract | The increasing use of dental implants and implant implants supported in areas until then without dental elements with good bony conditions and adequate volume have been successfully rehabilitated giving the dentist surgeon more confidence and clinical applicability in the use of these means for unit or multiple rehabilitation. However, regions with significant bone loss present themselves as a limitation for the use of conventional implants, especially in posterior regions of the mandible and maxilla where noble structures such as the inferior alveolar nerve and the floor of the maxillary sinus are respectively. As an option to this limitation there is the possibility of performing surgeries for grafting and bone regeneration in addition to transposition of the inferior alveolar nerve in order to use conventional implants. However, these procedures lead to a more expensive and more difficult postoperative treatment for the patient, besides grafting shows unpredictable and varied results. As an alternative to severely reabsorbed ridges, short implants of less than or equal to 10 mm in size have a less complex, costly and traumatic treatment for patients. Therefore short implants are a viable and predictable alternative, especially if understood biomechanical factors such as diameter, crown / implant ratio, non-use of cantilevers, splinting, number of threads, surface treatment, with this understanding the short implants achieve a rate similar to standard size implants. | en |
