No período de agosto a outubro de 1992, foi realizado um estudo de prevalência de positividade cutânea à histoplasmina e à paracoccidioidina nas cidades de Cachoeira do Sul, situada no Vale do rio Jacuí, e de Santo Ângelo, na encosta ocidental do Planalto, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. No período de agosto a outubro de 1992, foi realizado um estudo de prevalência de positividade cutânea à histoplasmina e à paracoccidioidina nas cidades de Cachoeira do Sul, situada no Vale do rio Jacuí, e de Santo Ângelo, na encosta ocidental do Planalto, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. A prevalência foi avaliada por testes intradérmicos histoplasmina e paracoccidioidina em 193 soldados de Cachoeira do Sul e 161 soldados de Santo Ângelo. Ambas as populações do sexo masculino e idade variando entre 17 e 19 anos. Em Cachoeira do Sul, considerando as leituras de 24 e 48horas, a prevalência de testes positivos à histoplasmina foi de 89% e à paracoccidioidina de 82%. Em Santo Ângelo 48% das reações intradérmicas foram positivas à histoplasmina e 39% à paracoccidioina. Houve relação estatísticamente significativa na cidade de Santo Ângelo para os indivíduos histoplasmina positivos com galinheiro em casa e para os que haviam participado da limpeza de galinheiro e/ou de local habitado por morcegos. Foi realizado radiograma de tórax em aproximadamente 6% dos indivíduos reatores fortes. Em Cachoeira do Sul, 17% e em Santo Ângelo, 30% dos radiogramas apresentavam calcificação. ...
