| pt_BR |

This paper seeks to understand how to compare the profiles of Information Technology (IT) professionals inserted in the academic environment when comparing the groups those who obtain and those who do not obtain IT certifications. The work serves as a counterpoint to research on certifications and salaries in the context of the USA (GABELHOUSE, 2002; MCPMAG; DOMINGO, 2011), seeking to research a population of IT professionals in Rio Grande do Sul. The fact that most of the publications on the topic are produced within the context of certification manufacturers, either by the organization itself, or by some form of sponsorship , causes the proportion impartial articles to be very small. The methodology involved the collection of information about the participants through voluntary completion of electronic form. There were 246 respondents, of whom 162 were compatible with the profile studied. From the valid respondents were obtained measures of average salaries, proportion of obtained certifications, and receptivity to carry out professional certifications. The hypothesis of the wage difference between individuals with and without certification was confirmed, with an average salary of 18% higher in those who have certifications, but it was not possible to obtain statistical results that allowed to affirm that this difference is reproduced in the population as a whole. It was also possible to observe that socio-cultural factors (gender, ethnicity, age) have a greater expression in the differentiation of the respondents of the sample than the obtaining of certifications. Among the conclusions, is that to affirm that there is improvement of remuneration when obtaining certifications in the context of all population will need a longitudinal study. | en |
