dc.description.abstract	The relationship between epenthesis and syllabification in Brazilian Portuguese is analyzed. It is shown that an analysis within the Theory of the Syllable developed in Itô (1986) allows to treat as one process the cases of epenthesis on the right and the cases of epenthesis on the left of stray consonants. Furthermore, it is claimed that epenthesis is a lexical and not only post-lexical phenomenon.	en
