A estrutura da 'Ethica eudemia I', 1-5

Abstract

Na Ethica Eudemia I, 1, 1214a9-15, Aristóteles traça uma distinção entre questões de investigações que contribuem somente para o conhecimento e questões que contribuem para a prática e a aquisição do objeto. A seguir, ele especifica as questões de segundo tipo que lhe interessam abordar como “o que é o bem viver?” e “como se pode adquiri-lo?” O artigo procura primeiramente esclarecer o fundamento daquela distinção e em segundo lugar utiliza esse resultado para compreender a estrutura dos capítulos 1-5, os quais fazem o exame das opiniões que respondem às questões de investigação especificadas.

In the Eudemian Ethics I, 1, 1214a9-12, Aristotle draws a distinction between questions to be investigated that contribute just to knowledge of their object and questions that contribute to the practice and acquisition of their object. Next, he determines the questions of the second type which he intends to examine in the first place: “what is living well?” and “how can it be acquired?” The paper purports to make clear what is the ground of that distinction and use this result to understand the structure of the chapters 1-5, which examine the opinions that answer those specific questions.
