My objective in this paper, whose investigative scope is three poems of Carlos Drummond de Andrade and two translations of each of these poems, is to analyze the respective translations of each of these poems: “In the Middle of the Road”, “Family Portrait” and “Don't Kill Yourself”. In the proposed analysis, I will observe the linguistic and formal aspects from those poems. Having in mind that this is an analytical-contrastive research, the approach will begin from a technical perspective, and I will analyze the translational interrelations between these two languages: Portuguese and English. The poems were taken from anthologies of Brazilian and/or Latin-American poetry that were published in Anglophonic countries. Firstly, the anthologies were digitalized and converted from .jpg images to .doc files via OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software. From this first broader corpus containing poems from many Brazilian poets, only one Brazilian author was chosen and, from this author, three poems with two translations each were chosen. The corpus of study passed by a specific marking to be observed with the support of the term extractor AntConc 3.2.4w, appropriately set to permit the alignment of each original text with its respective translations. After the alignment, I started a micro-structural analysis, in which I looked for changes in the syntactic, lexical, stylistic, and prosodic levels, having in mind the thematic and structural organization of the verses and stanzas, the lexical choices and the supra-segmental aspects – such as, for example, the use of capital letters, italicization and other highlighting forms. At the conclusion of this paper, I hope I will have contributed to the empirical Translation Studies: I hope I will have deepened the empirical knowledge on translation, by means of observation of which choices were made by translators before texts that are hermetic in their content and rigid in their form, which is the case of poems.en
