A facilidade com que temos acesso à escrita digitalizada, por meio de teclados e telas sensíveis, levanta questões que merecem uma reflexão: se por um lado essa tecnologia permite maior rapidez e difusão da informação escrita, por outro faz com que habilidades motoras e cognitivas necessárias à escrita manual sejam deixadas em segundo plano, cujas consequências são imprevisíveis. A facilidade com que temos acesso à escrita digitalizada, por meio de teclados e telas sensíveis, levanta questões que merecem uma reflexão: se por um lado essa tecnologia permite maior rapidez e difusão da informação escrita, por outro faz com que habilidades motoras e cognitivas necessárias à escrita manual sejam deixadas em segundo plano, cujas consequências são imprevisíveis. Assim, é necessário refletir sobre esta situação e seus desdobramentos em termos de expressão escrita e habilidades motoras, e seus reflexos no desenvolvimento integral das crianças do século XXI. Este capítulo procura contribuir para estudos que abordem este novo cenário e a necessidade de repensar os modelos de aquisição do sistema de escrita manual no ambiente escolar brasileiro. Para tanto, apresenta o histórico dos modelos de caligrafia e escrita no Brasil e seus antecedentes europeus e norte-americanos. O entendimento deste contexto é de grande importância no momento em que o design de famílias tipográficas a serem utilizadas na alfabetização escolar deve levar em conta os novos tempos, de modo a poder contribuir para um convívio harmonioso entre o manual e o digital. ...
