A literatura de design discorre sobre a responsabilidade social do designer desde a década de 1960, quando autores como Victor Papanek e Fritz Schumacher lançaram ao mundo este debate, que já permeava alguns grupos e eventos ao redor do mundo. A literatura de design discorre sobre a responsabilidade social do designer desde a década de 1960, quando autores como Victor Papanek e Fritz Schumacher lançaram ao mundo este debate, que já permeava alguns grupos e eventos ao redor do mundo. Assim, ao longo das últimas décadas, surgiram várias abordagens com este viés, como o Design para a Base da Pirâmide, o Design para a Inovação Social, entre outros. No entanto, para além das teorias, há uma grande lacuna quanto aos métodos propostos para esta prática do design, orientada à resolução de problemas sociais. Esta carência é suprida, por vezes, através da adoção de materiais alternativos, como kits de ferramentas (toolkits). Este capítulo pretende caracterizar e analisar oito kits de ferramentas, orientados à prática do Design Social, através de alguns critérios, esclarecendo a partir deles quais os padrões, coerências, semelhanças e disparidades podem ser notados entre os materiais. Trata-se, também, sobre como o processo de design é apresentado em cada um dos toolkits, suas fases e atividades constituintes, traçando então um paralelo entre elas. Comenta-se, ainda, sobre suas estruturas, níveis de abrangência, instrumentos de aplicação e mindsets. Ao fim, pode-se ter uma visão sistemática de quais conteúdos estão presentes e quais as inclinações teóricas que prevalecem nestes toolkits reconhecidamente orientados ao Design Social. ...
