The use of the atomic bomb in the end of the Second World War brought severe consequences for the contemporary society. It did not just mean the death of thousands of lives, but also initiated a race to the fabrication of nuclear weapons, with a fear that can still be sensed in present days. In the year 1995, celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the end of the war, and consequently of the launch of the first atomic bomb, an exhibition would be inaugurated in Smithsonian, famous American museum located in Washington, D.C. This exhibition would bring a darker point of view, where the victims of the bomb would have a central part and where which visitor would leave knowing that nuclear weapons are very negative for humankind. However, the idea did not go as planned and war veterans, politicians, media, and the American society canceled the exhibition due to strong criticism. This research intends to understand this polemic and what was in dispute in that moment of history. Studying the historiography is important to understand the event of the use of the atomic bomb and the debate about the exhibition and that is why this research intends to make this analysis and understand the dispute of the United States of the decade 1990 and its battle for history.en
