Abstract in Portuguese (Brasil)

This paper aims to assemble a narrative over the emergence of Pre Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), a biomedical intervention that is designed to provide prevention against HIV acquisition. While it is understood as the usage of antiretrovirals, drugs used in the treatment of HIV/Aids, as means of prevention it takes part of what is being called biomedicalization in the response to the epidemics. The intervention has received far much attention in recent events, such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of Truvada, a combination of antiretrovirals, for this kind of usage in 2012, and the recomendations published by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2014. In this documental ethnography, my aim is to explore the ways in which PrEP emerges considering different kinds of sources, shifting the narrative over different time-spaces. In a first moment, the focus is reffering to the scientific divulgation about the biomedical intervention, an analysis is performed over the publishing of materials in brazilian media I shall work over the rumors about the new usage linked to antiretrovirals, considering the promisses of what manifests itself as a possible future in HIV response, still it seems far away of everyday life. In what follows, I intend to narrate how different versions of PrEP, grasped in these rumors, shifts some of the ways attributed to the HIV epidemics response engagement. There is a political arena surrounding the debates over PrEP in which moralities and disparities in health access are intertwined. By the end, my aim is to present the way in which evidences capable of stabilizing PrEP are assembled as an effective biomedical intervention for prevention in a stage of the global health political economy. At every step, there is the attemp to point out some echoes and discontinuities that emerge, in ways that open up the biotechnology to the multiplicity of its enactments. ...
