A cavalaria nos Contos da Cantuária : possibilidades de leitura dos contos do cavaleiro e do escudeiro na obra de Geoffrey Chaucer

Abstract

Esta pesquisa possui o intuito de estabelecer possibilidades de leitura da cavalaria nos Contos da Cantuária de Geoffrey Chaucer. Esta obra possibilitou, no início desta pesquisa, que o século XIV e sua crise sociopolítica fosse percebida como recorte cronológico. Dentre os subsídios para cumprir o objetivo deste trabalho estão: a discussão sobre particularidades dos manuscritos dos contos de Chaucer, e como repercutem nas traduções utilizadas neste trabalho; estabelecer referencial teórico que entenda o Cavaleiro e Escudeiro como materializações no âmbito histórico e literário-narrativo e também a análise da configuração dos dois personagens no Prólogo e na narrativa de seus respectivos contos. A tradução para o português brasileiro será problematizada em quesitos de estrutura e organização dos contos, fatores importantes para a compreensão da continuidade da narrativa de Chaucer. Também pode ser encarado como objetivo deste trabalho, a “negociação” entre a arte literária e a história, igualando em importância estas duas áreas.

This research has the objective of establishing possibilities to understand the knighthood in The Canterbury Tales, by Geoffrey Chaucer. This piece made possible, in the beginning of this research, that the fourteenth century and its social and political crisis were perceived as time context. Among the resources to fulfill this research’s goal are: the debate about the differences between the manuscripts from Chaucer’s tales, and their influence in the translations used on this research; to establish theoretical material that can comprehend the Knight and the Squire as manifestations on both the historical and literary/narrative scenarios and also the analysis of the configuration of these two characters in the Prologue and in the narrative on each of their tales. The translation to Brazilian Portuguese is going to be analysed in the subjects os estructure and organization of the tales, which are important factors to comprehend the continuity of Chaucer’s narrative. It can also be perceived as an objective of this work, the “negotiation” between literary art and history, making this two areas equal in importance.
