Population aging, sedentary lifestyle, poor diet and the effects of lifestyle modernization have led to a dramatic increase in the prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus worldwide. Physical exercise is one of the best types of non-pharmacological treatments to prevent and control type 2 diabetes and is recommended by leading medical associations such as the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Diabetes Association. That its benefits go beyond improving blood glucose levels. In the literature, several studies have shown significant improvements in glycemic control, increased strength and improved functional capacity in elderly individuals with type 2 diabetes who performed strength training protocols. Therefore, this review study aims to analyze and provide information on the effects of strength training on glycemic control in elderly diabetic type 2 patients, describing the beneficial effects of these interventions on the neuromuscular and functional aspects of these individuals. Also checking if there are relationships in the increase of muscle mass and strength, and decrease of body fat, with the improvements found in glycemic control. ...
