The aluminum alloy AA 2618 is widely used in manufacturing compressor wheels for turbochargers used in diesel engines. Currently these wheels operate in têmperature to 200 0C, and the alloy used with heat treatment of solubilization and artificial aging. Recent studies have shown that the use of scandium and zirconium as alloying elements can increase the aluminum alloy working têmperature, however, the scandium is a high cost element further urge the alloy and for this reason there is a search for alternative elements as case of cerium in association with zirconium. In this study it was used AA2618 alloy with addition of 0.1% by weight of cerium and zirconium content of the same, with the samples in the wrought state, characterizing the application once the component is forged. The objective of this study is to characterize the influence of the solubilization time in the aging curves of aluminum alloy. Solubilizing two time parameters were used: four (4) and six (6) hours at 535 0C. The techniques of optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy were used to verify that phase changes or growth of precipitates with different solubilization times. After solubilization of the samples were subjected to artificial aging treatment at a têmperature of 220 0C for one (1) to eight (8) hours. Hardness curve of the treatments were raised in the Brinell hardness scale (ball of 2.5 mm and 62.5 kgf load), showing that for the longer solubilization peak hardness is achieved by six hours of solubilization being achieved the highest hardness with 8 hours of aging. With the lowest solubilization time, there was a decrease of hardness after 7 hours of aging. Therefore, at the times considered the best time is six hours resulted in higher hardness and lower maximum loss of hardness by overaging as compared to a lower têmperature solubilized samples. ...
