This study describes pegylated cationic nanoemulsions (NEP) as non-viral carriers for the commercial plasmid pTRACER™-CMV2. Cationic nanoemulsions composed of medium chain triglycerides oil core stabilized by DOTAP, DOPE and DSPE-PEG were prepared by high pressure homogenization. Complexation of NEP and pDNA from the +2/- charge relation was observed, as well as the protection against DNAse I enzyme at the same condition. After intravenous administration of NEP/pDNA +4/- in the tail vein of mice, it was noted increased expression of GFP in the lungs. The set of results shows the potential of NEP as a delivery system for pTRACER and the affinity of this cationic system for the lungs.en
