dc.description.abstract | This article presents a structural model for the classification of postcolonial cultures, according to the relative importance of three cultural factors: indigenous peoples, colonisers and slaves or prisoners. The model is tested against a number of theoretical texts, so as to suggest ways in which Anglophone post-colonial theory can fruitfully engage with literary studies in the south of Brazil. According to the model, the most promising theoretical approach is Alan Lawson's concept of a Second World, which takes in Australia, New Zealand and Canada and is also applicable to the south of Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. | en |
