O Brasil possui a segunda maior cobertura florestal do mundo e o setor florestal, mesmo utilizando menos de 1% da área produtiva do país (florestas plantadas), detinha em 2007 cerca de 3,5% do PIB nacional. Além disso, o país é líder no ranking mundial de produtividade, produzindo em média 35 m³ de eucalipto por hectare/ano e possui a menor rotatividade (tempo entre plantio e colheita) do gênero Eucaliptus comparado com o resto do planeta. Este trabalho estuda a viabilidade da gestão de resíduos desta indústria através da pirólise rápida, produzindo bio-óleo e procurando aplicações de seus produtos para os mercados estratégicos brasileiros. Destacam-se os mercados de fertilizantes (com o potencial de aplicação de fertilizantes slow-release), o mercado de pesticidas (através do princípio ativo eucaliptol) e o mercado da farmacologia (com o composto levoglucosana). O Rio Grande do Sul tem potencial de ser promissor no cultivo do eucalipto e, por ter um mercado agropecuário forte no estado, pode absorver muitos dos produtos gerados através da pirólise rápida dos resíduos florestais do eucalipto. ...
