Abstract in Portuguese (Brasil)
O ligamento cruzado cranial é o principal estabilizador do joelho.
O ligamento cruzado cranial é o principal estabilizador do joelho. ...

The cranial crossed ligament is the main knee stabilization. The rupture of this ligament in dogs results in instability of the articulation ocurring the excessive craniocaudal movement of the tibia in connection to the femur and this is one of the main reasons of lameness in dogs pelvic limb. The diagnosis is usuallly made by physical examination and implementation of cranial drawer test and tibial compression tests, but more and more complementary tests are used to confirm the injury in suspected cases. The treatment can be conservative or surgical depending on the weight of the animal health condition. For the surgical treatment, there are technical intracapsular, extracapsular and corrective osteonomies. The intracapsular replace the torn ligament by autogenous synthetic tissue. The extracapsular tension on the periarticular tissues in order to reestablish the articular stability and corrective osteotomies intent to change intend to change the biomechanics of the knee in an effort to obtein better distribution of strengh and generate dynamic in articulation. During the postoperative period, it is evidenced the benefit of physical therapy in order to recover the function of the affected limb, with reduction of muscle wasting, osteoarthritis signs and weight distribution problems. This work aims, through literature review, approaching the main issues related of the cranial crossover ligament rupture, surgical treatment by osteotomy technique of tibial plateau leveling (TPLO) and the main patterns of physical rehabilitation used in the practice of small animals seeking seeking to apply them to the postoperative of this disease. ...
