The present work proposes a methodology for selection and analysis of a screw for dental extractor device application, since there are not rules or procedures established to project screws for human teeth. Based on standards for geometry of screw geometries in bioengineering applications, for a first qualitative analysis, were proposed two-dimensional numeric models using the finite element method aiming to evaluate the format of screw thread and his respective stress distribution on the tooth. The stress distribution is directly related with the possibility of localized fragile rupture, in the region of fixing tooth and consequently the failure of extraction procedure, one possible functional failure of the screw. From four different geometries of study, was selected a geometry, which was simulated numerically with 3D models of the subassembly: screw, dentin, periodontal ligament and cortical bone. Such three-dimensional simulations considered critical (maximum load) conditions for the tooth extraction required force and it was proposed for a quantitative analysis of stress. This analysis permitted to evaluate if the screw, with his dimensions adapted by the standard, present failure by begin of yield according to the internal efforts promoted by typical teeth geometries. Due to existence of more than one root in some teeth, and because the screw will insert in only one of roots, the real problem further bending not expected on the first analyses, requiring an evaluation on the realistic geometry. Based on the analysis of this study results, it is concluded that the adapted screw geometry HC of the standard ASTM F543-6808, 2013, is suitable for applications in the dental extractor device, making among the screws studied, the best stress distribution for the functionality. ...
