The objective of this study is to analyse he news about violence against women published on the Brazilian web news portal G1 during the months of November and December of 2015, mainly the ones concerning femicide. Taking the recent legislation defining femicide in Brazil and the need to highlight the gender issue on this type of crime as a starting point, the aim is to understand how theses cases are reported. With the assistance of the constructionist theory and of the cultural studies, it is shown that the news can be perceived as a social construct of reality, defined by the subjectivity of the journalist and the context in which they take part in. Feminist and gender studies are also employed to comprehend how the gender violence against women is naturalized and perpetuated on our society. Using Content Analisys as a method, 135 news on the G1 portal were collected during two months of daily accesses, 56 of these being approached as femicide. It was accounted that only four of the news about femicide (7,14%) used the correct term for the crime and only 8 (5,92%) of 135 showed any statistics or questionings on the issue of violence against women. It was concluded that journalism reinforces worldviews when it comes to gender violence against women, which unveils that these deaths are still not perceived as a social phenomenon. Moreover, it was observed that G1 portal has a tendency to view theses cases as isolated and not as a structural consequence of an opressive and sexist system. ...
