Estudo descritivo que apresenta dados parciais do Projeto Avaliação dos Fatores Potencializadores de Saúde-Adoecimento dos Trabalhadores do HCPA, o objetivo é de avaliar a associação entre sobrepeso, através do Índice de Massa Corporal (IMC) e distribuição de gordura corporal com a prática de atividade física regular (AFR), idade, sexo, cargo de trabalho, tabagismo e escolaridade. O período estudado foi de julho a dezembro de 2008, com uma mostra de 724 sujeitos. Foi utilizado o programa SPSS, versão 16.0, e análise pelo teste Qui-quadrado, nível de significância 5%. Verifica-se que 54% encontram-se com sobrepeso ou obesidade e na variável cintura aumenta para 69,2% dos profissionais classificados na faixa de risco para doenças cardiovasculares (DCV). A média e desvio-padrão de IMC em 715 trabalhadores é de 26,22±4,49. Quanto às demais variáveis em estudo, 58,8% têm idade de 40 anos ou mais e 68,1% são do sexo masculino (p-valor=0,001). O grupo com menos de 15 anos de estudo teve uma proporção maior de IMC (pvalor= 0,002), refletindo na categoria profissional: técnicos e auxiliares de enfermagem (58,9%), comparado aos enfermeiros (36%) (p-valor=0,002). Fato também encontrado ao avaliar Razão Cintura-Quadril (RCQ). Também houve correlação entre sobrepeso com os valores referentes à circunferência da cintura para risco muito aumentado de DCV (88,8%) e da RCQ com risco de DCV (69,2%) (p-valor=0,001). Entre os indivíduos da amostra em relação à RCQ verifica-se maioria no sexo feminino (p=0,000). Tabagismo e prática de AFR em relação ao IMC e RCQ não apresentaram significância estatística. Intervenções visando à prevenção com adoção de hábitos de vida mais saudáveis no trabalho, a prática de AFR, eliminação do fumo e melhoria dos padrões nutricionais implicaria na redução do peso e doenças evitáveis. ...
