Cidadania e Multietnicidade : a noção de pertencimento e as arengas militares na escrita de Xenofonte

Abstract

O presente trabalho tem a finalidade de determinar a noção de pertencimento comunitário recorrentes nas arengas militares presentes na escrita de Xenofonte (430–354 a.C). Tal estudo utiliza como método a comparação entre as arengas dirigidas para um auditório composto por membros pertencentes a comunidades que possuem em seu sistema valores a cidadania e as arengas voltadas para um auditório multiétnico, com membros provindos de diversas culturas. É aplicada uma análise retórica comparativa entre duas obras de autoria de Xenofonte: Anábase e Ciropedia. O emprego de tal metodologia consiste em destacar diferenças técnicas, como artifícios retóricos, e identificar núcleos argumentativos para discernir nas diferenças a influência da noção de pertencimento nos discursos. A importância da retórica nesta pesquisa também se atribui ao fato de que a tradição historiográfica do mundo antigo é composta com bases em tal arte da persuasão, que influenciara a literatura da época.

This research aims to determine the notion of belonging in a community recurrent in pre-battle speeches present in Xenophon’s (430-354 BC) texts. The method used in this study is a comparison between pre-battle speeches addressed to an audience of members belonging in a community who share the same value system and same citizenship and the pre-battle speeches addressed to a multi-ethnic audience, where members come from different cultures. It applies a comparative analysis of the rhetoric between two of Xenophon’s writings: Anabasis and Cyropaedia. The method consists of pointing out technical differences, such as rhetorical artifices; identifying the crux of the arguments in order to discern in the speeches, especially with their differences, the influence of the notion of belonging. The importance of the rhetoric in this research is also due to the fact that the historiographic tradition of the Ancient World is based in this art of persuasion, which influenced the literature at the time.
