| pt_BR |
dc.description.abstract | This study was designed to determine the vertical positioning of the marginal ridge (VPMR) and clinical crown center (VPCC) of adjacent posterior teeth, as well as their differences in order to evaluate the equivalence between these anatomical references. This retrospective cross-sectional study used a sample selected from 1430 patients. Two hundred patients that fulfilled the selection criteria had their initial dental casts selected. After standardization of the dental cast position, VPMR and VPCC of posterior teeth were measured on the buccal and lingual side in both arches using a 0.01mm precision digital height gauge. The data were statistically evaluated at P<0.05. In general, VPMR and VPCC of adjacent posterior teeth presented significant differences. The variation of VPMR and VPCC between adjacent posterior teeth was not similar, except between mandibular premolars. The widest variations between VPMR and VPCC involved the first molars. VPCC was significantly correlated with the patient age. It was concluded that adjacent posterior teeth had different VPMR and VPCC. Variations of VPMR and VPCC were not similar and the clinically significant divergences between these landmarks indicated that clinical crown center was not a good predictor of marginal ridge leveling requiring caution to be used mainly in teenager patients. | en |
