Sobre mulheres, aliens e ciborgues : uma análise de The Female Man de Joanna Russ

Abstract

Esse trabalho analisa as questões de gênero apresentadas no romance de ficção científica The Female Man, da escritora norte americana Joanna Russ. Para uma melhor compreensão da obra foi necessária a rememoração histórica da ficção científica traçando um caminho que se inicia com suas obras fundadoras, passa pela fase de consolidação da ficção científica como gênero literário e alcança o momento no qual as mulheres afirmam-se como importantes representantes do gênero. Joanna Russ é uma das autoras mais expressivas de sua época. Sua obra mais famosa é The Female Man, que apresenta quatro perspectivas da experiência de uma mulher sobre o mundo incluindo um universo utópico exclusivamente feminino, Whileaway. Russ é uma das escritoras e críticas feministas mais comprometidas. O objetivo desse trabalho é desvendar as múltiplas críticas ao sistema patriarcal existentes no livro, embora esse processo ocorra através de uma alegoria alienígena para conseguir fazer valer seus pontos de vista.

This study analyzed the gender issues presented in the science fiction novel The Female Man of the North American writer Joanna Russ. For a better understanding of the work, it was necessary to recall the historical science fiction tracing a path that begins with its founding works, through the moment of consolidation of science fiction as a literary genre and reaches the point where women affirm themselves as important representatives of the genre. Joanna Russ is one of the most significant authors of her time. Hers most famous work is The Female Man, which presents four perspectives of a woman's experience of the world including an exclusively female utopian universe, Whileaway. Russ is one of the feminist writers and critics more committed. The aim of this study is to unveil the multiple criticisms of the patriarchal system existing in the book, although this process occurs through an alien allegory to get assert their views.
