This text presents some results and questions raised by an ongoing research project, entitled “The Filmmaker, the Philosopher, the Writer and her Translator: Sei Shônagon’s presence in the work of Borges, Foucault and Greenaway.” The project seeks to find some points of contact between Japanese classic The Pillow Book (10th century) and the work of postmodern Western authors, focusing on Peter Greenaway’s eponymous film (1996).
