Revestimentos orgânicos são amplamente estudados e usados nos terminais de distribuição de combustível para proteção de seus ativos operacionais. Revestimentos orgânicos são amplamente estudados e usados nos terminais de distribuição de combustível para proteção de seus ativos operacionais. Estes revestimentos são obtidos a partir de tintas especiais contendo pigmentos que ajudam a proteger os metais contra corrosão. Um dos pigmentos mais utilizados é a base de cromatos, atualmente proibidos de serem utilizados em razão de sua elevada toxicidade. Uma alternativa proposta é a substituição de cromatos por polímeros condutores como o polipirrol e a polianilina (PAni). Diversos estudos realizados com a PAni têm demonstrado que ela pode produzir revestimentos com excelentes propriedades protetoras. Neste trabalho a anilina foi polimerizada por um método de emulsão direto empregando tolueno como solvente. Nesta síntese a PAni pode ser obtida na forma líquida. Dessa forma realizou-se uma comparação entre as propriedades de barreiras das tintas com Panis e uma tinta industrial Shewin Williene.
