Este trabalho – através de pesquisa qualitativa a partir de levantamento bibliográfico, análise documental e entrevistas semi-estruturadas – atinge o objetivo de conhecer a opinião de lideranças de entidades portoalegrenses que lutam pela democratização das comunicações. Além disso, identifica e aprofunda os principais eixos de luta da democracia na comunicação (direito à comunicação, controle público, equidade na distribuição dos meios e diversidade regional, cultural e ideológica) e percebe a relação indissociável entre esses conceitos. No referencial teórico, aborda - internacional e nacionalmente - o desenvolvimento das tecnologias e mercado da comunicação e o debate da democratização das comunicações. Após entrevistar representantes da sociedade civil organizada, relaciona as informações coletadas com os apontamentos teóricos e entre si. Concluí-se que há necessidade de ampliar o diálogo entre os movimentos sociais para que trabalhem mais coletivamente, conheçam e unifiquem suas pautas, atuem e pressionem (estado, academia e sociedade) para induzir a democratização das comunicações em suas diversas instâncias. ...
