Pessoas com obesidade : fatores vivenciados no processo de busca pela cirurgia bariátrica

Abstract

O presente estudo tem como objetivo geral identificar os fatores vivenciados por pessoas com obesidade no processo de busca pela cirurgia bariátrica, analisando sua relação com os determinantes sociais da saúde. A pesquisa foi realizada junto ao Programa de Cirurgia Bariátrica do Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre. A metodologia do estudo é de natureza qualitativa, de caráter descritivo-exploratório e foi realizada com dez participantes em fase de ingresso no programa, por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas e análise de prontuários. Os resultados revelaram que a obesidade transcende a dimensão biomédica, configurando-se como expressão da questão social marcada por desigualdades econômicas, culturais e simbólicas. Verificou-se que elementos como fatores econômicos, alimentação, precarização laboral, estigma social, barreiras físicas e ambientais influenciam diretamente o processo saúde e doença das pessoas com obesidade. As narrativas evidenciaram sofrimento psíquico, exclusão e restrições no convívio social, mas também esperança e motivação para a mudança. Conclui-se que a compreensão da obesidade sob a ótica da determinação social em saúde é essencial para um cuidado integral e humanizado. Destaca-se a importância da atuação multiprofissional, em especial do Serviço Social, na defesa do direito à saúde e na promoção de práticas que considerem o sujeito em sua totalidade biopsicossocial.

The present study aims to identify the factors experienced by individuals with obesity in the process of seeking bariatric surgery, analyzing their relationship with the social determinants of health. The research was conducted with the Bariatric Surgery Program at the Hospital de Clínicas in Porto Alegre. The study methodology is qualitative in nature, descriptive-exploratory, and was carried out with ten participants in the process of entering the program, through semi-structured interviews and analysis of medical records. The results revealed that obesity transcends the biomedical dimension, representing an expression of the social issue marked by economic, cultural, and symbolic inequalities. It was found that factors such as economic conditions, diet, precarious work conditions, social stigma, and physical and environmental barriers directly influence the health and illness process in individuals with obesity. The narratives highlighted psychological suffering, exclusion, and restrictions in social interactions, but also hope and motivation for change. It is concluded that understanding obesity from the perspective of social determinants of health is essential for comprehensive and humanized care. The importance of a multidisciplinary approach, particularly Social Work, is emphasized in defending the right to health and promoting practices that consider the individual in their biopsychosocial entirety.
