O gênero da honra : uma etnografia das relações de violência, sofrimento e vitimização feminina no norte do Tocantins

Abstract

Esta tese de doutorado em Antropologia objetiva pesquisar a “violência contra a mulher” em Santa Madalena, um pequeno município localizado no norte do Tocantins. Por intermédio de uma etnografia estruturada, sobretudo, na convivência e no diálogo com mulheres que sofreram experiências de violência, objetiva-se compreender as singularidades de um fenômeno que, em Santa Madalena, transcende os limites conjugal-familiares e político-jurídicos, irradiando-se à vida social, tornando-se conhecimento público e, assim, originando sentimentos nas mulheres, como a humilhação, a vergonha e o sofrimento em ser socialmente reputada como uma “mulher agredida”. Sentindo-se desmoralizadas, essas mulheres, para além de sofrerem pelas violências, sofrem pelas humilhações e vergonhas sentidas, tornando-se o sofrimento um “sofrimento social”, ancorado em nuanças morais. Casos de violência doméstica, feminicídio e tentativa de feminicídio, exposição não consentida de imagens eróticas, e o caso de uma mulher julgada por homicídio são apresentados. Analisa-se como se estruturam essas violências, assim como as emoções e subjetividades femininas – quer em relação às violências sofridas, quer em relação à publicização dessas violências. Posteriormente, analisa-se como esses casos, do universo social, transportam-se para o universo jurídico e são por ele apreendidos, evidenciando-se os processos de judicialização e vitimização, isto é, os processos institucionais que contemplam as mulheres agredidas como “vítimas”, ou não. Assim, refletir acerca do gênero da honra é compreender como as violências contra as mulheres se situam no núcleo de uma esfera onde outros eventos orbitam em seu entorno, como relações de gênero, conjugalidade, família, moralidades, afetos, sentimentos, sofrimentos, humilhação, amor, fofoca, judicialização, vitimização, assim como honras e reputações destruídas, desnudando-se esses eventos de violência um feixe de relações.

This doctoral thesis in Anthropology aims to investigate “violence against women” in Santa Madalena, a small municipality located in the north of Tocantins, Brazil. Through an ethnography structured above all around cohabitation and dialogue with women who have experienced violence, it seeks to understand the singularities of a phenomenon that, in Santa Madalena, transcends conjugal-familial and politico-legal boundaries, spreading into social life, becoming public knowledge and thus giving rise to feelings among women such as humiliation, shame and the suffering of being socially reputed as a “battered woman”. Feeling demoralised, these women, beyond suffering the violence itself, also suffer from the humiliations and shames they experience, so that their suffering becomes “social suffering”, anchored in moral nuances. Cases of domestic violence, femicide and attempted femicide, non-consensual exposure of erotic images, and the case of a woman tried for homicide are presented. The thesis analyses how these forms of violence are structured, as well as women’s emotions and subjectivities – both in relation to the violence suffered and to the publicisation of that violence. It then analyses how these cases, from the social universe, are transported into the legal universe and apprehended by it, highlighting the processes of judicialisation and victimisation, that is, the institutional processes that frame women who have been assaulted as “victims”, or not. Thus, to reflect on the gender of the honour is to understand how violence against women is situated at the core of a sphere around which other events orbit, such as gender relations, conjugality, family, moralities, affects, feelings, sufferings, humiliation, love, gossip, judicialisation, victimisation, as well as destroyed honours and reputations, with these events of violence revealing themselves as a bundle of relations.
