Isto não é uma televisão : musealização da subcoleção Claudio Goulart na Fundação Vera Chaves Barcellos

Abstract

Esta dissertação de mestrado, vinculada ao Programa de Pós-Graduação em Museologia e Patrimônio da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (PPGMusPa/UFRGS), na linha de pesquisa Museologia, Curadoria e Gestão, investiga o processo de musealização da subcoleção Claudio Goulart na Fundação Vera Chaves Barcellos (FVCB), a partir da doação realizada pela fundação holandesa Art Zone, em 2015. O conjunto, composto por mais de 500 trabalhos — entre fotografias, séries de desenhos, videoperformances, instalações e registros — apresenta desafios característicos da musealização da arte contemporânea, que incidem diretamente sobre as práticas museológicas e museográficas de salvaguarda, comunicação e gestão de acervos. Ancorada em conceitos-chave dos campos da Museologia e da História da Arte, tais como musealização da arte contemporânea, artista gestora e sistema da arte, a pesquisa busca contribuir para as reflexões sobre os modos de incorporação e preservação de coleções contemporâneas em instituições culturais. O objetivo principal consiste em investigar como se constitui e se organiza o processo de musealização da subcoleção Claudio Goulart na FVCB, com ênfase no período de 2015 a 2025, porém contextualizando a institucionalização da produção do artista e a construção de um processo museal realizado pela FVCB, a partir de 2005. Entre os objetivos específicos, destacam-se: caracterizar historicamente a formação do acervo de Claudio Goulart na FVCB; compreender o papel do artista no sistema da arte e sua trajetória entre Porto Alegre e Amsterdã; analisar as ações desenvolvidas pelos diferentes setores da FVCB em torno da subcoleção; e examinar as dinâmicas de construção e gestão do acervo da FVCB sob a coordenação da artista gestora Vera Chaves Barcellos. A pesquisa buscou responder à seguinte questão norteadora: como se constitui o processo de musealização da subcoleção Claudio Goulart na Fundação Vera Chaves Barcellos desde sua doação pela instituição Art Zone? Para tanto, adotou-se uma metodologia que combina análise documental, entrevistas e pesquisa bibliográfica, a fim de oferecer subsídios teóricos e práticos para o aprimoramento da gestão de acervos em instituições museológicas contemporâneas. Por fim, conclui-se que existem três períodos que perpassam o processo de musealização da subcoleção Claudio Goulart na FVCB: o primeiro voltado para sua institucionalização e primeiros movimentos de legitimação no sistema da arte via exposições; o segundo voltado a desenvolver ações de salvaguarda com ênfase na documentação, pesquisa e comunicação; e o terceiro que adensa práticas de musealização com a criação efetiva da subcoleção a partir de ações de conservação preventiva, documentação museológica, curadoria de exposições e ações educativo-culturais que cumprem o que se compreende como sendo o ciclo completo da musealização.

The present research, developed within the Graduate Program in Museology and Heritage at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (PPGMusPa/UFRGS), under the research line Museology, Curatorship, and Management, investigates the process of musealization of the Claudio Goulart subcollection at the Fundação Vera Chaves Barcellos (FVCB), following the donation made by the Dutch foundation Art Zone in 2015. The ensemble, comprising more than 500 works — including photographs, series of drawings, videoperformances, installations, and records — presents challenges characteristic of the musealization of contemporary art, which directly affect museological and museographic practices of safeguarding, communication, and collection management. Grounded in key concepts from the fields of Museology and Art History — such as the musealization of contemporary art, the artist-manager, and the art system — this research seeks to contribute to reflections on the modes of incorporation and preservation of contemporary collections within cultural institutions. The main objective is to investigate how the musealization process of the Claudio Goulart subcollection at FVCB has been constituted and organized, with emphasis on the period from 2015 to 2025, while contextualizing the institutionalization of the artist’s production and the construction of a museal process undertaken by FVCB since 2005. Among the specific objectives are: to historically characterize the formation of the Claudio Goulart collection at FVCB; to understand the artist’s role within the art system and his trajectory between Porto Alegre and Amsterdam; to analyze the actions developed by different sectors of FVCB around the subcollection; and to examine the dynamics of collection construction and management under the coordination of the artist-manager Vera Chaves Barcellos. The research addresses the following guiding question: how has the musealization process of the Claudio Goulart subcollection at the Fundação Vera Chaves Barcellos been constituted since its donation by the Art Zone foundation? To this end, a methodology combining documentary analysis, interviews, and bibliographic research was adopted, aiming to provide both theoretical and practical insights for improving collection management in contemporary museological institutions. Finally, the study concludes that three main periods can be identified in the musealization process of the Claudio Goulart subcollection at FVCB: the first, focused on its institutionalization and initial movements of legitimation within the art system through exhibitions; the second, dedicated to developing safeguarding actions with an emphasis on documentation, research, and communication; and the third, consolidating musealization practices through the effective creation of the subcollection, grounded in preventive conservation, museological documentation, exhibition curatorship, and educational-cultural actions that fulfill what can be understood as the complete musealization cycle.
